Tröegs Cultivator Helles Bock

Troegs-Cultivator-Helles-BockFrom the Brewer – “Emerging from springtime’s fertile ground, Cultivator celebrates the start of hop-growing season as sprawling fields of hop rhizomes climb and tether to hop bines. This spring bock delivers hints of toasted grains, fresh-baked bread and delicate floral hops.

Cultivator pairs nicely with a variety of cheeses including Asiago, Colby, Gruyère and Swiss. Its malt sweetness and clean, dry finish also complements spicy dishes such as Thai or Korean barbecue, shellfish and a variety of fried foods.

With its deep amber color, distinctive rich flavor and full body, Shiner Bock demonstrates the care of a handcrafted brewing process to bring forth a mellow taste free of the bitter aftertaste found in many micro, specialty and imported beers. Just think of it as Shiner smooth.”

Samuel Adams Cinder Bock

The inspiration for this unique brew was a combination of two traditional and bold German lagers.  The first was a rauchbier, whose name translates to smoke beer.  We had long loved these unique brews that we had come across during trips to Germany.  This style originated in Bamberg, Franconia in the 1500s.  Its distinctive character comes from smoking the malts.  Originally almost all malt had this smoky quality from the wood used in the kilning process.  The flavor fell away as brewers switched to a smoke free kiln to dry the malt but in Bamberg, they kept the flavor alive in several of their beer styles.  The smoked malt gives the beer a campfire smoke and almost bacony quality.

From the Brewer – “Smoky and rich this brew begins with a rush of smoky, almost savory, aromas and flavors.  The distinctive campfire smokiness of a rauchbier lingers and begins to reveal the rich and velvety malt smoothness of a double bock with notes of toffee and caramel.  This roguish brew transforms from its bold start to a hearty and satisfying finish.

The smokiness and malty sweetness of this brew works perfectly with classic German dishes like sausage, smoked meats.  The flavors play off of each other without being overpowering.

Sam Adams The Vixen

From the Brewer – The Vixen is a chocolate chili bock with cinnamon. The Vixen is smooth and rich with an enticing touch of sweetness and ends with a spicy heat.  For this unique brew we used carefully roasted malts and dark cocoa nibs for a full-bodied and slightly sweet flavor.  To this roast and chocolaty base we added an element  or warmth and spice with cinnamon and chilies.  Dark and alluring, the brew will keep you captivated.

Lakefront Bock Beer

From the Brewer – “A traditional bock beer, using 100% Munich malt and balanced with German Hallertau hops. Pours a fiery orange-garnet color with a thick, pale-orange head. The aroma is malty with a hint of the noble German hops. Maltiness dominates the flavor, but with a very complex background of hop bitterness, floral yeast character and a very intriguing nutty quality.”

Great with sauce-based meat dishes like chicken paprikash, Hungarian-style goulash or pork rouladen. Sausages and, of course, pretzels and mustard, are great pairings as well.
